Cosmetic acupuncture focuses on reducing the fine lines on the face, which most often occur due to accumulation of life's daily stresses on the mind body and spirit. In order to treat the face, we also treat the internal organs, balancing & harmonizing their internal relationships. If you are bothered by the sight of sagging skin and fine lines around your eyes and mouth, you might consider acupuncture. This centuries old technique helps your face look younger and brighter with improved skin tone and tightness - all without having to go under the knife.
How Cosmetic Acupuncture Works
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese therapy used for over 2,500 years. Practitioners place thin, hair-like needles at certain points within the body to stimulate the body's natural healing response. It has become increasingly popular in Canada and is now recognized as a safe and effective way to treat everything from migraines and back pain to arthritis and asthma.
Facial rejuvenation treatment involves the insertion of about 30 to 50 needles, with the majority on the face and head, and some on other parts of the body such as the lower legs, feet, arms and hands. The process can take about an hour to complete.
If you're worried about pain, it's reported that most people barely feed the needles as they are inserted. Some may not feel anything while the needles are in, while others might experience tingling, warmth or a mild dull ache in some insertion sites. In delicate areas, where there is less fatty tissue and more blood vessels, bones or nerves nearer to the surface of the skin, one might feel a slight pin prick very briefly as the needle is inserted.
Cosmetic Acupuncture yields subtle and noticeable results, and generally between the first and third session with results becoming more clear and lasting after six to eight sessions. A patient can expect to see improved texture and skin colour. There is also a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, sagging jowls, double chin, puffiness and drooping lids. The best results come with 10 to 12 initial sessions done weekly, followed by maintenance sessions every three to four months.
